At this point, you’d settle for a date night consisting of take out and a made-for-TV movie. (Which, in all honesty, sounds magnificent.) But dream with me here, folks.
Imagine a world where grandma’s got the kids. A world where you and your special someone can walk downtown, hope in the car or take off on a place and emerge in a nirvana of spa treatments and fuzzy white robes, a utopia of candlelit dining and gorgeous scenery or a paradise of adventure and grown-up conversation.
These three getaways are couple tested and approved as incredibly romantic. Imagination, meet reality.

Since it’s the subject of the Guns N’ Roses’ track “Paradise City,” you have some idea of what to expect from this picturesque lake town tucked in southern Wisconsin. Less than two hours from Chicago, Lake Geneva is an ideal weekend trip for harried parents looking for a little peace and quiet.
From the quaint antique shops in town to the lakefront mansions, the local, friendly restaurants and the beautiful hiking and biking trails, everything about this place is so charming you’ll be falling in love with more than just your significant other.
For a real treat, stay at the Grand Geneva Resort. Just a few minutes from the lake, this resort was originally a Playboy Club Hotel but is now a cozy, cabin-like retreat for couples and families. Stay comfy in the room with a book by the fireplace, head to the WELL Spa + Salon for some much needed R&R or grab a drink by the fire pit overlooking the water.
In chilly temps, you can explore ice skating and skiing on the resort grounds. Or don’t leave the warmth at all with superb dining options such as Geneva ChopHouse and Ristoranté Brissago in the resort itself.
Couples should take advantage of the fun classes and activities at the hotel, such as a beer and cheese tasting or cooking class.
A weekend in Lake Geneva is as enchantingly soothing or as enjoyably busting as you want it to be, which is why you’ll most likely be daydreaming about moving to one of the mansion on the lake by Sunday evening.
