Lessons at Midwest ski resorts get children off on right foot

When my children were little — just 3 and 5 — my spouse and I put them in a preschool skiing program at Tyrol Basin. That was almost a decade ago. And while they haven’t become ski racers, it got them off to a great start.

They loved sliding around on the snow, making pizza wedges and french fries with their skis and zipping down beginner runs with monikers like Nisse Sti — named for a mischievous Norwegian elf — and Trollway. They also liked the friendly instructors, the hot chocolate breaks and the graham crackers.
